Everyone knows that Alaska and Hawaii are our 49th and 50th states, respectively.
(well, every American should know)
However, this American didn’t know that they both became states in 1959.
Jan 3rd - Alaska admitted as 49th US state
AND
Aug 22nd - Hawaii admitted as 50th state.
